Workman Arts invites artist members to apply for a three-month residency (starting January 6th, 2025 and concluding on March 31st, 2025).
Successful applicants will be provided with a $500 monthly stipend ($1500 total) and free studio space where they can concentrate on their creative work.
The shared studio space will be located at the NaAC Won Lee Community Arts Hub (1594 Queen Street West) and/or at the WA Media Lab (1025 Queen Street West).
Studio hours at the Won Lee Community Arts Hub will be determined and agreed upon between the artists and NaAC & WA staff on a case-by-case basis. Please note that the Won Lee Community Arts Hub space is more suitable for stationary art practices that can be completed at a table or easel such as painting, writing, sculpting, etc., and may not be suitable for art practices that require movement in a vast open space such as dance.
The Media Lab is a shared studio space and can be accessed Monday to Friday between 12PM and 5PM. The Media lab is best suited for media arts and music.
Unfortunately, at this time, other studio options are not available; however, Workman Arts staff are striving to secure more studio space through community partnerships.
There is also an option to complete the residency remotely if the artist resides outside of the GTA and/or is unable to attend studio hours in person due to access needs.
Artists in Residence will be expected to focus on a specific body of work or artistic project throughout the residency. At the conclusion of each residency, the artist will be asked to give back to the community by facilitating a workshop, seminar and/or lecture related to their arts practice.
A total of 6 artists will be selected; one from each of the following categories:
