Professional art training has been a part of Workman Arts since 1987.

Workman Arts offers high caliber art courses in Media Arts, Literary Arts, Music, Theatre and Visual Arts delivered by Workman Arts members and other working arts professionals.

Our programs support artists to reach their creative and professional goals through art training, professional development, and presentation opportunities and by providing support through peer-to-peer interaction and community.

All courses are free to members.

BRUISED YEARS CHOIR*

Mondays | 2:00-4:00 | Workman Theatre (April 8-June 24)

Start your week on a high-note with Jim LeFrancois and Rob Joy to tackle contemporary music selections. Monday rehearsals are the heart of what we do, but we also strut our stuff in performances and gigs! All levels of vocal proficiency welcome!

Songwriting 2

SONGWRITING & RECORDING

Tuesdays | 12:30-3:30 | Workman Theatre (April 9-June 25)

Write, develop and record songs with Lisa Conway and Gaja using voice, instruments and other sound elements to create new songs and share recordings.

PRINTMAKING

Tuesdays | 1:00-4:00 | Lower Hall (April 9-June 25)

Create multiples (cards, posters, prints and clothing) using stamps, lino blocks, screen printing and other found materials with Nathan Enkel and Veronique. Create and work on a body of work with a theme you care about!

Printmaking
Collaborative Filmmaking

**This class is only open to those who were enrolled in the Winter term to continue working on the film that is currently being made.

COLLABORATIVE FILM MAKING 2**

Tuesdays | 4:00-7:00 | Workman Theatre (April 9-June 25)

Work in all aspects of filmmaking (camera work, sound, lighting and editing) to create collaborative film projects with James Buffin and editor Oliver Rabinovitch. 

GRANT WRITING GROUP*

Wednesdays | 11:00-1:00 | Lower Hall (April 10-June 26)

Work on your own or with grant writers to receive guidance and feedback on applications. Develop applications, support material, your CV and artist statements.

Discover your authentic voice, banish writers’ block and take your writing and performance to the next next level with Andrea Thompson.

SELF STORIES THEATRE

Wednesdays | 3:00-5:00 | Workman Theatre (April 10-June 26)

Using a variety of prompts and starting points, work with Lorene Stanwick to create devised collaborative theatre pieces based on explored themes.

Memoir Writing 1 1

Please bring a notebook and pen with you to each class. There will be writing prompts and homework between classes.

WRITING YOUR STORY

Thursdays | 1:30-3:30 | Workman Theatre (April 11-June 27)

Work with Emily Gillespie as she guides you through the process of using fiction, non-fiction, poetry and memoir to write your story.

Continue working on projects you have already started and/or start new pieces to develop and share. New writers are always welcome!

OIL PORTRAIT PAINTING

Thursdays | 12:00-3:00 | Lower Hall (April 11-June 27)

Learn to work with oil paints from Steven Lewis who will be covering topics such as composition, colour mixing, and the various stages in making a realism painting or painting what we see.

Materials students need to provide: 4 16×20 canvas or canvas boards, an empty cleaned tuna can, a variety of brushes, a wooden palette, palette knife.

PERFORMANCE ART SALON

Thursdays | 4:00-6:00 | Workman Theatre (April 11-June 27)

Create experimental performance through play and costuming. Experience freedom in process based performing with Lisa Anita Wegner.

TEXTILE ART

Thursdays | 3:30-6:30 | Lower Hall (April 11-June 27)

Work with Paula John and Vanden Boomen to create sculptural and wearable art as well as visual art textile pieces for the end of term Fashion Show.

Join Kate Gorman each week for a free yoga class. Take some time each week to relax, stretch your body and spend time together. No previous experience needed!

Join Kate Ashby for improvisation with the MadProv group for a weekly chance to react, respond and collaborate in the moment.
