TK Workman’s painting “Self Portrait with Egg Ladies” depicts the artist amongst her pottery/ceramic glaze works and her hand-built egg ladies. This is the style of painting that she adopted w... hen she first started working with oils on canvas. What was adopted from her original practice of watercolour painting was the need to leave the white of the canvas unpainted. Building the image with many single brush strokes became TK’s style until she later discovered acrylic paints and the idea of actually covering the canvas with paint. This painting is an ode to TK’s time working with pottery which she loved doing, however, it was a toxic environment and felt so engrossing and all-consuming.
More recently during the pandemic, TK has been exploring doodling and collage on a smaller scale, which was inspired by access to Zoom classes thanks to Workman Arts, which also has offered her access to other humans.
