Toronto-based artist and painter Taryn Lee earned her Bachelor of Design from Ryerson University, specializing in fashion communication. Her art practice focuses on figurative representational work ... and portraits. She primarily works with oil paint at a studio in the East End. In 2018, she began teaching art to youths at a private school in Toronto. Unfortunately the school has been closed since March 2020 due to Covid. While at home at the beginning of the pandemic, she went back to the basics, re-familiarizing herself with pencil drawings. She also started using watercolour inks during this time to continue with fashion sketching. She participates in weekly online live fashion drawing sessions hosted by a group in the UK.
Taryn Lee’s lived experience with mental health has been a journey that started when she was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in high school. She believes that creativity and mental health can be harnessed together to create beautiful things, and open up dialogue to new perspectives. She is a mental health advocate and a member of Workman Arts.
